Erik Satie's Gnossienne No. 1 - a hypnotic music
Lower your blood pressure! Go off into dreamland. Take time off from the busy-ness of life.
As the guitarist and composer in 88 Strings, I love arranging music for our unique combination of instruments.
I have played Gnoissienne No. 1 since I was a teenager, on piano and on guitar. I have arranged it a number of times for different ensembles because it always sounds fresh with each iteration.
Erik Satie was a mystical and infamous composer in the early part of the 20th century. He wrote music that challenged every current orthodoxy in music and paved the way for a number of trends in 20th century music. His legacy is still with us today, in the 21st century, while composers of his time who were much more famous than he have faded in their influence.
Read more about Satie at the excellent Britannica web site article.
Here is our first performance of Gnossienne No. 1, from our ebut concert at Pyatt Hall in Vancouver, Canada on September 20, 2024.
